Prof Dr. Eva Van Braeckel - Covid-19 expert

Ghent, Belgium, Sep 10, 2020, Besides Professor Doctor, Eva is also a hero! During the past corona period, she led the team at UZ Gent that was at the front line in the fight against Covid-19. I photograph her on the day when there are no Covid patients for the first time since 24 hours. At peak times the respiratory ward was extended to 5 additional units.
"As a pneumologist, I experienced the Corona period as back to the essence, our calling for this profession: caring for the patient." It was hard work, of course. No more time for possible burn-outs (physician burnouts: interrupted - ref .: Pamela Hartzband) ”, she laughs. 'It was a bit of a war. With China and Italy in mind, we were prepared for even worse scenarios, but luckily they didn't happen. The solidarity within the team and our hospital was very high. More than ever, care became our priority. Thanks to our expertise in communicable lung diseases, we experienced no fear. All team members remained free of infection”. Stay careful…the war against this virus is not over yet…
