Calais, Januari 2015. Human rights watch reports about the conditions thousands of stranded refugees have to deal with in Calais, on their way to the UK. In camps or ‘jungles’, several thousand asylum seekers and migrants, people from Syria, Iraq, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Pakistan and Afghanistan are living in makeshift camps or in the streets in Calais. Some said that their treatment by police, a lack of housing for asylum seekers, and delays in the French asylum system had deterred them from seeking asylum in France.
