Ghent, Belgium, 11 Sep 2020, Giannina is a Peruvian photographer living in Ghent. Our children go to the same school. She would like to have her portrait made and tell her story to find out what it feels like. Usually she is on the other side of the camera and she makes very beautiful evocative dark pictorial images with an ambiguous atmosphere.
“I was lucky not to have any sick people in my family,” says Giannina. As an artist it was a very nice period to be able to concentrate on work. With the family we could be very close. But I was worried about my mom who was alone in Lima. Peru is a different world and the peak came later than ours. There is no social security, no safety net for assistance, etc… We call every day and for the time being she is doing well.”
